What is schizophrenia?
- Schizophrenia is a long-term mental health disorder. its a illness of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between an individuals thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Which could lead to inappropriate behaviors and emotions, faulty perception, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships such as friends into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.
Symptoms of schizophrenia
- There ar many different symptoms an individual could have auch as hallucinations, delusions, disoragnised thinking, lack of motivation, slow movemtents, change in sleep pattren, poor hygiene, loss intrest in social activities, and changes in body language and emotion.
- There are loads of different symptoms with schizophrenis, these symptoms are classified as positive and negative symptoms.
- Positive = hallucinations or delusions. Hallucinations are where someone sees, hears, smells, tastes or feels things that do not exist to other people who aren't hallucinating. The most common hallucination is hearing voices. Hallucinations are very real to the person experiencing them, even though people around them cannot hear the voices or experience the sensations. Hallutination could be very scary and dangerous to the individual experienceing them.
- Negative symptoms = these negative symptoms could appear way before someone could experience an acute episode of schizophrenia. These symptoms could be months or even years before the first episode. Schizophrenic episodes could include symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions.
Tips for schizophrenia
- Schizophrenia is usually treated with an individually tailored combination of talking therapy and medicine. The goal of the CMHT is to provide day-to-day support and treatment while ensuring you have as much independence as possible.
Causes of schizophrenia
- Reserchers do not know the exact cause of schizophrenia but they think it is a combination of physical, genetic, psychological and enviromental factors that could make an individual more like to develop the condition.
- Genes - researchers think schizophrenia runs in the family but no specific gene is the cause of it.
- Reserchers think that not only genes could cause schizophrenia but it could be to do with the difference in brain development, and complications before and during birth.
