What is addiction?

  • Addiction is a chronic (lifelong) condition that involves compulsive seeking and taking of a substance or performing of an activity despite negative or harmful consequences. Addiction can significantly impact an individuals physical and mental health, relationships and overall quality of life.

What are the most common things people get addicted too?

  • The most common theings people get adicted to are drugs, alcohol, smoking anf gambiling. However anyone can be addicted to anthing such as work, exercise, the internet and sex. 

Symptoms of addiction

  • Symptoms of addiction could include many different thngs such as Confusion, delusions and/or  hallucinations, Irritability, anxiety and/or paranoia. Changes in heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature and possibly a heart attack, Nausea or vomiting with weight loss.

Tips for addictions

  • Addiction is a cureable thing no matter what it is the idividual is addicted to. The individual who is struggeling with addiction could start by going to a doctor or a GP to ask for proffesional help. The individual could also start going to meeting such as AA meetings.
  • If an individual doesnt want to go to the doctor possibly because they are embarassed they could call the Samaritans free on 116 123 which is anonamous. 

Causes of addictions

  • There are loads of differnt reasons why some pople may get accited to something but the most common reason id to feel a "high" either physically, mentally or both. 
  • Some people may also start things such as drugs or alcohol either because they are struggeling, this could be either physically like an illness and they might not have long left to life, or mentally where they are depressed or have a serous illness. Or some peole may start drugs because they were peer-pressured into doing it by their friens and now hey cant stop.
